About VAAK
The Kerala Veterinary College Alumni Association, Kerala (VAAK) came into existence on December 28, 2003. The old students who attended the meeting also elected an executive committee. We subsequently registered the association (Reg. No. R 843/2004) under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific, and Charitable Societies Act, 1955 (Act XII of 1955). The association’s registered office is located at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy. The association’s formation was intended to foster camaraderie among alumni, facilitate the establishment of awards and endowments, and support the development of alma mater facilities.
In 2005, our association initiated a project to build an auditorium to commemorate the golden jubilee of the college. On April 23, 2010, we handed over the ‘Golden Jubilee Alumni Hall’ to the Kerala Agricultural University. Our association has an office adjacent to the hall.
The Annual General Meeting on August 30th, 2010 amended the association’s bylaws to meet future needs. The association has designed two schemes, the Student Aid Fund (SAF) and the Student Support Programme (SSP), to help the needy and eligible students at our college. Up until 2023, we assisted 231 students with SAF and 10 students with SSF.
Every year, at its annual meeting, our association honours the old students batch-wise.
The association published a coffee table book ‘Veterinary College: The Tribute’ in 2018. We anticipate publishing an updated version of the book in 2024.
Our association is actively working to establish a “Faculty Museum” at the historic building where the first batch of students began studying veterinary science in 1955. We have approved the draft and anticipate its opening by December 2024.
Our association has units in all of Kerala’s districts, as well as a special unit for the college campus. During 2023-24, we fostered new units for alumni living overseas, in other Indian states, and in the UT of Lakshadweep. The VAAK leadership administers WhatsApp Community, which connects all units. The Veterinary College Alumni Association Kerala creates and regularly updates a new Facebook page. Dr. P. Balachandran sponsored the association’s new website, www.vaak.info, launched on August 11, 2024.
Every year, the association celebrates Alumni Day on August 1st, along with the college’s Foundation Day celebrations. Obliging to the demands of global alumni, our association is organizing a two-day alumni meet (August 10th and 11th, 2024) at the Golden Jubilee Alumni Hall for the first time in VAAK’s history.
